Acoustic Timber Panels

Perforated Timber Panels

An outstanding speech or stage performance can be ruined if the acoustics of the interior space – hall or auditorium – are not optimized. Performance spaces like halls are essentially large “boxes” and need to be acoustically treated so that when performers give their best, the audience can hear and appreciate voices, instruments, etc, with clarity. For example, minimizing sound reflections off walls and ceilings can be achieved by installing sound absorbing linings, like Murano Perforated Timber Panels. These panels are suitable for all noise-reducing applications in auditorium, halls and similar spaces.

Simple ways to reduce echo and unwanted noise

When voices or music or other sound is projected in large reflective spaces, audiences at the farthest points may not receive sound clearly because the sound will reach them from multiple sources. As well as reaching them directly, it will also bounce (reflect) off walls, ceilings and other hard surfaces. The situation can be a lot worse when multiple sound sources are happening, such as at a conference or a Q&A discussion. Sound absorbing wall and ceiling panels, like Murano Acoustic Timber Panels can be an ideal way to deal with this problem.

Perforated Timber Panels like the Murano Range are available in a range of rich natural wood veneers, decorative laminates, as well as gloss and matte paint finishes. No matter what style you choose, Murano Perforated Timber Panels will ensure that the tone is matched with the mood.

Absolutely sound acoustic characteristics

Wood or Timber Panels are commonly used to line walls or ceilings, but these panels will not absorb sound unless they are perforated – that is machined with holes, grooves, or slots to let sound pass through. Murano Perforated Timber Panels are available with a large range of perforation variations. The manufacturers of Murano is Sontext Acoustic Panels Australia. Sontext recommend that an acoustic insulation infill be installed behind the timber panels to maximize sound absorption. No matter which finish is chosen – veneer, laminated panels or paint finishes, the acoustic sound absorbing quality of the wood panels will remain the same. The room will become more pleasant for occupants, and the acoustic quality will become richer. Installing Murano Perforated Timber Panels, available from Sontext, is an ideal way to reduce echo, dampen noise and improve performance and speech quality in interior spaces.

Serenity Lite Fabric Acoustic Wall panel

SonOne of the most common problems with music teaching rooms is the unwanted echo or too much noise.

At Ormond College Melbourne there were a number of classrooms that had high ceilings, rendered walls and Timber floors. This meant that for a music teacher it was almost impossible to teach for long periods in a noisy environment.

By working with the School architect, Sontext were able to advise the type of Timber Acoustic Panel, thickness and placement of the acoustic panels with in the room. The choice was for Serenity Acoustic Wall Panels covered in a custom designed fabric by Melbourne Designers Ink and Spindle.

The panel chosen was a 1800 x 1200 x 50 mm Serenity Fabric Covered acoustic panel as in the picture above. Due to the nature of the Serenity Acoustic panel with its High impact resistant membrane L32 the panel can stand any amount of robust treatment.

Sontext can supply Serenity Acoustic Panels in Custom designed fabric or a standard fabric for our standard range. ART PANELS are available with your own high resolution image on the panel.

Acoustic Wall Panels in Noisy School Hall or Gymnasium

SoAs a result of the many new Multipurpose Halls that were built as a result of the Australia Government Education Funding program, many halls have very poor acoustic qualities.

Too much noise in a School hall means that it is difficult for the teacher to communicate with the students and also it is uncomfortable for the Students.

In this hall at St Agathas Catholic School in Berwick Victoria it was almost impossible to teach with any more than ten children in the hall. By working with Greg Strickland from Brand Architects and the school principal, Sontext came up with a solution to reduce the reverberation. This involved installing 25mm thick Serenity Fabric covered acoustic wall panels to the walls of the Hall.

“The result was amazing” was the feedback from the teaching staff.

By using Rim Trilogy One fabric the staff were able to choose colours for fabric that matched and enhanced the existing colour scheme.

By installing Serenity Acoustic Wall Panels in the correct places the budget was able to be met . Serenity Acoustic Wall panels are custom made in Australia and can be made to size to fit in with existing wall fittings.

Serenity Acoustic wall panels were chosen due to the acoustic performance and also the inclusion of the impact resistant membrane L32. The Serenity Panels can withstand significant high impact from things like basketballs.
